What is an RSS feed?

Rss stands for "really simple syndication" and it's the safest way to subscribe to anything on the net. RSS is way better than the old alternative which was to leave your email address on somebody's site so that they could send you information or a newsletter. These orange RSS or XML buttons that you've probably been seeing all over the internet are your gateway to the RSS feed. The information I give you here will not only allow you to subscribe to my site and keep up with all the updates in Punta Cana, but you can use this feed to sign up to any of your favorite sites or news agancies. You can even use RSS to get newsfeeds from the major networks or sports updates from ESPN.

RSS is no longer "the next big thing", it is "the big thing". Pretty soon it will be the only way people syndicate information on the web.

Once you're using RSS, you'll have all your favorite parts of the internet feeding to you rather than having to go out and manually look for updates all the time. You don't have to bookmark pages, your favorites show up on your doorstep like the Saturday paper.

Why do you want to subscribe to my RSS feed?

Every time I create a new page, update an old one or find an unbelievable travel deal I'll release it on RSS. You'll be the first to know! You won't have to visit the site and search through the pages to see what's going on and what's changed.

The first thing you need to do is download a free RSS Reader. This is special software that reads the "RSS feeds" from any site offering an RSS feed (from CNN to the Punta Cana Information Guide)..

Windows -- RssReader
http://www.rssreader.com/

Mac -- NetNewsWire
http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/

Once you've downloaded the software, all you have to do is:

Right-click (control-click for Mac users) on any orange RSS button on a site, blog or news source that interests you. Start by right-clicking on the orange button on my blog page, then choose copy shortcut and Paste that shortcut into your RSS reader. You're off to the races, you can now pick and choose whatever RSS feeds you want off the web.

By the way, it's as easy to un-subscribe to any feed as it is to subscribe. You can choose at any time to cancel your subscription so don't be afraid to sign up to different RSS feeds around the net and try them out. If they're not providing you with what you're looking for - unsubscribe, but don't do it to me :-).
