Secrets Excellence Punta Cana is an adults only resort – designed mainly for couples who don’t want kids running around and splashing in the pool. This is meant to be a romantic get-away for lying on the beach, lounging in the spa and enjoying drinks at the bar. For this reason, Secrets Excellence Punta Cana doesn’t offer as many activities as many other resorts. Secret Excellence Punta Cana is a five star resort that we feel works very hard to maintain its ranking. The bulk of the staff speak English very well, which isn’t always the case in Punta Cana. There are mini-bars in every room stalked with sodas, beer and water. Rooms all feature electronic safes, 24 hour room service and there are many different levels of room upgrades available. Our favorites are the swim-up rooms right next to the pool that give you quick access to the whole resort. There is also a VIP set of rooms available for those who want a little extra pampering.
Secrets Excellence in Punta Cana is smaller than many resorts – there are only 480 rooms. The
resort extends along the beach rather than away from it, allowing guests to see the ocean from
almost anywhere in the resort. Secrets Punta Cana has two of the most beautiful winding pools
you’ll see anywhere (including a waterfall) – there are four pool-side bars and one swim-up bar
so you can enjoy a drink without leaving the pool. This is a big selling point for me!
If every resort has a focus, the focus of Secrets Excellence is definitely FOOD. There are 8 gourmet restaurants offering a range of cuisines and there are no reservations needed. No meal tickets like at many resorts – just show up and eat! You ask anyone who comes back from Secrets what they liked best about the hotel and they’ll tell you the food. Suggestion: try the flambé! The bars at Secrets Excellence in Punta Cana stock a wide (international) variety of alcohol instead of mainly local fare. If you need to have your Bacardi, Beefeater or Budweiser – you can get it here. Decent bottled wines are offered at dinner with an impressive wine list available if you want to purchase something special, which we did on a couple occasions. The beach at Secrets Excellence tends not to be over crowded - even when the resort is full there are plenty of palapas available. The beach here is not as manicured as at some of the other resorts in Punta Cana and there aren’t as many sports available. We get bored after a few days on the beach and like to have easy access to activities - not a lot of them here. Overall impression, we had a great time here, loved the resort, the food and the staff; we weren't crazy about the water sports though. We probably won't make it back to Secrets again because we have kids now and love to vacation with them. After the first time we brought them to a beach in Punta Cana and saw the pure joy on their faces - we won't go without them again.
